Heart And Mind Matters L. Neil Thrussell

Power of Your Mindset

Mindset refers to a person’s mental attitude, beliefs, and perceptions about themselves, others, and the world around them. It is the lens through which individuals interpret and make sense of their experiences, challenges, and opportunities.

Having a positive mindset is powerful because it influences how we perceive and respond to the various situations that life throws our way. A positive mindset involves adopting an optimistic outlook, and focusing on possibilities and solutions rather than dwelling on problems or limitations. It involves cultivating a belief in one’s ability to learn, grow, and overcome obstacles.

In today’s world, a positive mindset is commonly called ‘getting over the victim mentality’.

Here are a few reasons why a positive mindset is so powerful:

  1. Resilience: A positive mindset helps you bounce back from setbacks and adversity. It enables you to view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning rather than as insurmountable obstacles. This resilience allows you to persevere and maintain motivation in the face of difficulties.
  2. Emotional well-being: A positive mindset promotes emotional well-being and mental health. It encourages you to focus on the positive aspects of your life, fostering gratitude, contentment, and happiness. By cultivating positive thoughts and emotions, you can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to improved overall well-being.
  3. Improved relationships: A positive mindset enhances interpersonal relationships. When you approach interactions with optimism and positivity, you tend to attract and build strong connections with others. Positive energy and attitudes are contagious, and they contribute to a supportive and harmonious social environment.
  4. Increased productivity and success: A positive mindset fuels motivation and productivity. When you believe in your abilities and maintain a positive outlook, you are more likely to set ambitious goals, take risks, and persist in your efforts. A positive mindset enables you to overcome obstacles, stay focused, and achieve higher levels of success in various areas of your life.
  5. Health benefits: Research suggests that a positive mindset can have a positive impact on physical health. When you are optimistic, you may experience lower levels of stress hormones, better cardiovascular health, and a strengthened immune system. Additionally, a positive mindset can promote healthier habits, such as regular exercise and a balanced diet.

Here is a list of five current individuals who are known for their positive mindsets and how they use them:

  1. Oprah Winfrey: Oprah Winfrey, a media mogul and philanthropist, maintains a positive mindset by focusing on gratitude, self-reflection, and personal growth. She uses her platform to inspire and empower others through her messages of positivity, resilience, and self-belief.
  2. Serena Williams: Tennis champion Serena Williams demonstrates a positive mindset on and off the court. She emphasizes the importance of self-belief, perseverance, and mental strength. Williams uses her positive mindset to overcome obstacles, stay focused, and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
  3. Richard Branson: Entrepreneur Richard Branson is known for his adventurous spirit and positive outlook on life. He uses his positive mindset to take calculated risks, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and foster a supportive and collaborative work environment within his Virgin Group of companies.
  4. Michelle Obama: Former First Lady Michelle Obama promotes positivity, resilience, and personal development. She encourages individuals, particularly young people, to believe in themselves, practice empathy, and make a positive difference in the world. Obama uses her positive mindset to advocate for important social causes and inspire others to take action.
  5. Malala Yousafzai: Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai exemplifies a positive mindset in the face of adversity. Despite surviving an assassination attempt, she remains committed to advocating for girls’ education and promoting peace. Yousafzai’s positive mindset enables her to be resilient, determined, and an influential voice for change.

While it is not a guarantee, many successful people possess a positive and growth-oriented mindset. This mindset empowers them to overcome challenges, embrace opportunities, and continually strive for personal success. It enables them to tap into their potential, adapt to changing circumstances, and maintain a resilient and determined attitude on their journey toward achieving their goals.

The 12 Shin Dao tenets (principles for living life) cause a POSITIVE shift in your mindset when you follow them… even if you only follow them occasionally. However, the benefits to your mental psyche are quite immense when you fully embrace them.

I ask you to take a look at the 12 tenets below and ask yourself, “If I selected one of the tenets that resonates with me the most and FULLY embraced that tenet, how would my life change for the better?”

12 Tenets

  • Connect with the Earth
  • Let Go of Your Busy-ness
  • Celebrate the Present
  • Seek Meaning to Your Life

I encourage you to sit with the tenet for a full 21 days if you are able and then share your experience with us (Tina and Neil) by writing to info@shindao.com or by calling us at 1-403-860-7311. Tell us what you notice about yourself and the world around you after focusing on your tenet of choice!

P.S. We are excited to announce that we are working on releasing a book to more fully describe these tenets, what they really mean, and how they can impact your life. If you’d be interested in receiving a copy, please let us know!
