I shared last week that I like to start my day with inspirational reading. Here’s one of my morning readings that I thought you might appreciate:
“Hope is a spiritual practice I return to often because it is the one thing that removes the sense of uncertainty from anything. Today, I experience hope as a necessary action on behalf of and for the good of others.
I remember an experience of hope a few years ago when presenting a gift to a child whose name and wish I had selected from an Angel Tree. His name was Maxwell, and in his letter he described a remote-controlled car in precise detail, down to the simple garnish of a giant red bow.
It was a great quest and deep honor to find and deliver this gift exactly as he described it. When he saw me enter the room carrying the car bearing a big red box, he lit up and ran across the room wearing the biggest smile I had ever seen. I kneeled to present him with his gift, and instead of grabbing it, he threw himself into my arms and held on as tight as he could and whispered through tears of joy, “Just as I hoped; thank you!”
Weeks later, I received a card from Maxwell and his family thanking me for the gift of hope.”
The above is a story written by Rev. Kathy Beasley for the 2021 Advent publication, “A Christmas to Remember”.
May you create a Christmas to remember with your gifts of hope and promise.
